PlayStation 2 was Released

PlayStation 2 Startup Sound

The PlayStation 2 (PS2) was originally released in Japan in 2000, and eventually became the best-selling video game console of all time, selling over 160 million units sold worldwide. The PS2 also had a built in DVD player, allowing access to watch DVDs, and also allowed access to online gaming due to a Network Adaptor add-on. The PlayStation 2 was, and still is, a very popular video game console, and was very influential at the time.

Windows XP was Released

Windows XP Startup and Shut Down Sound

Windows XP was a popular windows update, due to the widespread of users at this time. One of the key features of this update was a new user interface called the “Luna” theme, which was very different from previous themes. Even after support and updates ended for this version of Windows, it still remained popular, and holds a significance compared to all of the other Windows updates.

Skype was Released

Skype was originally launched by Estonian developers and Scandinavian entrepreneurs. It was known to be free PC-to-PC calls. later, eBay acquired Skype, then later Microsoft acquired Skype. Skype had popularized video calling to a mass audience, and was the first widely adopted service of its kind.

Twitter was Released

Twitter, formally known as Twittr, was released in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams. Twitter was an SMS-based service for status updates, with Jack Dorsey having sent the first ever tweet saying “just setting up my twittr”. Twitter is a place where people can get real-time news, as well as have real-time conversations, and is a global platform where individuals can to voice their opinions.

Wii was Introduced

Wii Startup Intro Sound

The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console that was released in November 2006. Instead of focusing on beating the competitors, Nintendo wanted to create something different. The Wii emphasized new forms of interaction, through a wireless controller, the Wii Remote. This remote had motion tracking controls, and could recognize gestures, and function as a pointing device. The Wii revolutionized gaming consoles, creating new features that the other competitors didn’t have.

The Duck Song was Released

The Duck Song

The Duck Song is a Song written by American Musician Briant Oden, and was a very popular song when it was released. It was originally released as just a lyric video, until a few months later, Forrest Whaley, known as forestfire101 online, reached out to Oden and ended up animating it at just 15 years old, using Microsoft Paint. This song is one that almost every kid around this time knew, weather from discovering it themselves, or from other kids at school, due to its catchy tune, and funny characters.
